Abstract

469,236. Spring frames for motorcycles. SMITH, D. Feb. 12, 1937, No. 3416. [Class 136 (iii)] In a spring frame for motor-cycles of the type in which the rear wheel is carried by a spring-controlled pivoted fork, the fork is pivoted to a pair of uprights of angle section, and is controlled on each side by a compression spring and by a frictional vibration damper, in the following manner. The rear wheel is carried by a fork D fixed to a pivot spindle K mounted in split bearings A, which are secured to angle members C bolted to upper frame tubes E and lower bars F of strip form. Compression springs H are interposed between brackets I, G, the latter also serving for the attachment of mudguard stays U. The pivotal movement of the fork D is also controlled by friction dampers comprising arcuate plates M sliding in glands N, which are secured to the strips F by bolts O, the bolts and nuts co-operating with frictional material and a packing-piece to adjust the damping action.
