Abstract
469,059. Atomizers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 27, 1936, No. 15008. Convention date, May 29, 1935. [Class 69 (iii)] [Also in Group XI] An atomizing nozzle for liquids, especially suitable for use in an oil burner having a viscosity-compensated control as described in Specification 468,985, comprises inner and outer tubular conduits 10, 11 for liquid and expansible fluid respectively and a tip 20 formed with a substantially cylindrical chamber 22 which terminates in a discharge orifice 23 and to which the liquid is admitted through a sharp-edged orifice 25 in a thin diaphragm 24 and the air or other expansible fluid through a tangential inlet port 26. The tip 20 is threaded on the conduit 10 and is sealed in relation to the conduit 11 by a compression gland 28 and gasket 27. The orifices 23, 25 and port 26 are calibrated for preselected flows at predetermined pressures. By removing the gland 28 and unscrewing the tip 20 by means of a wrench inserted in sockets 38 the tip and diaphragm may be replaced by others having different flow characteristics. The liquid flow may be controlled by a cut-off valve 13 which may be operated electromagnetically. The oil and air are preferably supplied to the nozzle under equalized pressure by the pumping mechanism described in Specification 450,197, [Group XXVI].
