Leakage, preventing.-An hydraulic stop-cock or valve in a tubular casing 2, which may be screwed at each end so that it may be fitted to the nozzle 18 of a hose pipe &c. 17,comprises a ported conical plug 1 pressed at one end against a flat seating 7 by the pressure of the fluid in the pipe admitted to a. chamber 16 at the other end through a passage or groove 15 in the plug. The chamber 16 is closed by a screw cap 9 having a projection 9a leaving a small clearance for the plug. One arm of an operating-handle. 12 is secured by a screw 13 in the projecting plug-stem 5, the other arm being pivoted on a stud 14 screwed into the cap. The plug-end is usually flat to fit the flat seating 7.
