[Class 139] A clock has a front of flat glass or other appropriate material having a recess formed in it to accommodate the hands and leaving a flat marginal portion around the recess to which a backpiece may be attached. The cover glass a, Fig. 1, of plate glass or other suitable material is concavely recessed at c in its rear face.and is backed by a sheet b of plate glass with an opening d for the hand arbors. Sheet b, which constitutes the dial or dial plate, may have a mirrored surface formed by a layer of metal foil and may have also a concave recess in its front face. The sheets a, b are secured together in a frame or by clips, screws or adhesive. In Fig. 2, the cover glass a<1> with the recess c in its rear face is smaller than the rear plate b<1>. A metal disc i secured to the movement case j has tongues h<1> for the hour marks and perforated lugs i<1> which are held by screws g, which latter also hold the plates a<1>, bl to brackets h on a base e. In another construction, Fig. 4, the cover glass o recessed at c is backed by a circular mirror band o<1> carrying the dial markings and secured by adhesive to a metal ring m<1>. Behind this, a layer m of black plush is secured by adhesive to the plate l which forms part of the clock case l<1>. Alternatively, plate l may serve as the dial. Plate l and ring m<1> are held together by screws n.
