Abstract
468,906. Necklaces etc.; fastenings. BROGAN, B. F. Aug. 5, 1936, No. 21561. [Class 43] [Also in Group XXV] A clasp for string jewellery comprises a hollow body provided in its interior at each end with snap fastening means separate from the hollow body but co-operable therewith to be engaged by the opposite ends of the necklace &c. An aperture 18, Figs. 3 and 5, formed in the back 16 of the jewelled body 12 of the fastening, and from this aperture run slots 19, 21, which extend through the concave end walls 14. Within the hollow interior of the body, is a spring metal plate 23, Fig. 6, positioned by side wings 24 of the same contour as the side walls of the body, and having parts cut out and bent up at 27. At the ends curved flanges 28 are formed with slots 29 aligned with the slots 19, 21. A connecting-member 31 attached to each end of the bead string or chain has a ball-end 32 whose diameter is greater than the width of the restriction produced between portions 27 and the back of the body. The ball-end of a connecting-member is passed through the aperture 18 and drawn towards an end wall 14, snapping past the restriction. The shank 34 is then pressed over the point 37 of the end wall and rests in the concavity 22 thereof, the flange 28 being flexed by this operation so that the resulting tension holds the member 31 in position. In a modification, Fig. 8, two separate apertures 41, 42, and slots are provided and there are two spring plates each substantially like half the plate of the first form except that the side wings 43 are straight and abut against the rear wall of the extension a. The metal removed in producing the slot 44 may form an extension 46 to prevent longitudinal movement of the plate.
