G, KOLLSTEDE BRACELET Filed May 4. 1927 -INVENTORV ATTORNEY A Patented Feb. 7, 1928.
UNITED STA GEORGE KOLLSTEDE, 0F PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
Bmwnmrr.y
Application led May 4,
My invention relates io bands for bracelets and the like.
The essential objects of my invention are facile adjustability to lit members 0f various sizes; security against accidental detachment; comfort strength; simplicity; and inexpensiveness.
To the above ends essentially iny invention consists in suchparts and in such combinations of parts as fall Within Athe scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying 'drawings which form a part of this specification Figure l is a plan elevation of a Watch bracelet embodying my invention, the same being shown in locked position,
Figure 2, a section of the saine taken on line 2*2 of Figure 1,
Figures 3 and 4, sections taken on lines 3-3 and 4 4 respectively of Figure 2,A
Figure 5, a section taken on a line corresponding With line 4-4 of Figure 2 showing the parts in unlocked position, and
Figure 6, a fragmentary perspective of one of the strap ends.'
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the views.
In the embodiment of my invention hereinabove shown, 7 is a. Wrist Watch or other ornament having the usual lateral loops 8. Straps 10 and 11 of thin metal 0r other resilient material have open attaching loops 13 loosely engaging the lateral loops, and are closed by resilient tongues 14 riveted or otherwise fixed to adjacent portions of thc straps as at 15. The straps may, however, be attached to the member 7 in any other convenient manner or may be integral therewith. rlhe non-attached ends of the straps overlap each other some distance.
The strap 10 has a series of longitudinally disposed openings 17 extending from its `free extremity. JAdjacent the free ond of the strap 11 is a centrally located longitudinally disposed resilient finger 19 struck up and bent from the material of the strap, comprising a forwardly directed inclined or rounded shank portion 2O and a substantiallyhorizontal tongue/or bearing portion 21. The tongue is of slightly less width than the width of the openings 17. The shank portion 20 of the finger passes through one of the openings, and the`tongue portion 21 lies in a plane in front of the strap 10 to bear against the face thereof. At each side of 1927. serial No. 188,852.
the finger in transverse alignment with each other upon the strap 11 are rounded projections or rotuberances 23.
Slidaby mounted upon the overlapped portions of the straps is a clasp or sleeve -v 25. This is composed of a single strip of' thin resilient metal With bent ends, and comprises a body -portion 26 disposed transversely upon the rear face of the strip 11, and forwardly directed end flanges 27 terminating in inturned rearwardly inclined resilient lips '28. provided with cavities 30 adapted to receive the protuberances 23 When the clasp 25 is slid to such a position that the latter register in the former. The pressure of the lips 28 serves to snap the projections into the cavities.
As herein shown the extremities 32 and 33 of the straps 10 and 11 respectively are oppositely bent to facilitate `the travel of the clasp 25.
In applying the band to the Wrist the finger 19 is inserted through one of the openings 17, as shown in Figure 5, and its tongue portion 21 next moves over the face of the strap 10 to the position shown in Figure 4, whereupon the clasp 25 is moved from its position shown in Figures 3 and 4 Where the projections 23 register in their cavities. The clasp now holds the straps so closely together that the finger 19 is not permitted to escape by Withdrawal from its opening 17. In order to disengage the straps from each other the clasp is pushed aside to thc/position shown in Figure 5, and the finger l5) is moved to the position shown in said figure. Finally the extremity of the strap 11 is pulled away from the strap 1() whereby the latter ridesover the inclined or rounded shank portion 20 of the finger and permits the extremity of the tongue 21 to pass through the opening.
I claim 1. In a bracelet, a band comprising resilient straps, one of said straps being provided With an opening, a resilient linger upon the other strap adapted to extend through the opening and to embrace the first strap, protuberancesupon the second mentioned strap adjacent the finger, and a clasp slidably-embracing the straps' and provided with cavities adapted to receive the protuberances.
2. In a bracelet, a. band comprising over- The body portion 26 is` (ill - being provided with a longitudinal seri-es of openings,a linger on the other strap extending through the openings and adapted to hear upon the first strap, protuheranees upon the second mentioned strap in transverse alignment with the finger, and a slidahle clasp romprising a body portion disposed transversely of the straps and provided with cavities adapted to register with the protu- 10 beirances. flangesI upon the ends of the body at right angles to the body, and inturned inclined resilient lips upon the flanges adapted to compress the overlapping straps.
In testimony whereof I have aiixeil my signature.
GEORGE KOLIJS'IEDI).
