L. J. ANSHEN WATCH HOOK Filed March 2 1925 3 INVENTQR ATTORNEY Patented June 30, 1925.
LOUIS J. ANsHEn, or rnovinnnonanonn rsnann.
WATCH HOOK.
Application filed. March 28, 192-5. Serial No. 19,045.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, LoUIs J. ANsHEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watch I-Iooks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to members adapted for attaching a watch to the ends of a watch bracelet or the like.
The essential objects of my invention are to adapt the attaching member to engagement with the bracelet chain or strap; to prevent sliding of the watch ring longitudinally of the body; and to attain these ends in a simple and inexpensively formed structure and capable of ornamentation.
To the above ends essentially my invention consists in such parts and in such combinations of parts as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings which form a part of this specification Figure 1 is a fragmentary rear elevation of my watch attachment engaged to one end of a wrist strap or bracelet,
Figures 2 and 3, sections of the watch attachment on lines 22 and 33 respectively of Figure 1, and
Figures 4, 5, and 6, detail views ofthe body, tongue, and spring respectively.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the views.
In detail my watch attachment includes a front plate 8 comprising an oblong tapering body 9, a broad beak 10, upon its outer end, an inturned flange or sleeve 11 upon its inner end, and lateral inturned flanges 12 provided with end lugs 13 spaced from the beak and having in their ends cavities 14. v The flange or sleeve 11 has a central slot 15, and the .sides 12 have near their rear ends oppositely disposed perforations 16, to receive a pivot pin or pintle 17 A tongue member 20 is provided consisting of longitudinally tapering plate or body 21 having upon its rear end an inturned flange or sleeve 22, adjacent which are o-ppositely disposed lateral ears 24 provided with perforations 25 to receive the pintle 17. The body 21 has in its rear end a central longitudinal slot 26 extending through the flange 22 as at 27 to register with the slot 15.
Theextremity of the lip or beak 10 slightly overlaps the outer end of the tongue member 20, and is normally pressed in engagement therewith by a spring member 29. This spring is composed of a bent resilient wire comprising a yoke portion 30 having upon its end closed loops or eyes 32-, and free arms 34. The yoke and arms are disposed in planes at an acute angle to each other. The loops 32 embrace the pintle 17 the yoke 30 bears upon the tongue 21; and the arms 34 press against the front plate 8.
In Figure 1 is shown a portion of a bracelet unit comprisinga housing link 36, and a slidable connecting link 37 carried therein and including an attaching loop portion 38. The slots 26, 27, and 15 in the watch attaching member afford access of the loop 38 to surround the pintle 17.
The watch loop or ring is inserted in the book by pressing it inwardly against the end of the tongue 13 where it is retained within thebeak 10, and is prevented from aceidentally moving longitudinally of the body 9 by reason of the lugs 13 and their cavities 1 1, which serve as" stop lugs. The form of spring shown is extremely strong and easily formed. The front member 8 and the tongue member 20 are cut and bent fro-m initially flat thin metal blanks, and the en tire structure is, therefore, very inexpensive to construct.
I claim 1. In an article of the character described, a front plate, a beak upon one end of the plate, a flange upon the other end of the plate, side walls upon the plate, stop ears upon the walls adjacent the beak, a pintle in thewalls adjacent the flange, a tongue mounted upon the pintle adapted to engage the beak, and a spring supported by the pintle pressing the tongue against the beak.
2. In an article of the character described, a front plate, a beak upon the forward end of the plate, ears adjacent the beak, a flange upon the rear end of the plate, lateral walls on the plate adjacent the flange, said flange being provided with a central slot, a tongue engaging the beak with its forward end, a flange upon its rear end, lateral ears upon the rear end of the tongue, a pintle connecting the walls and ears, a spring engaging the front plate and tongue, said tongue and last mentioned flange being provided with a central slot registering with the first menthe pintle, and a spring comprising a yoke tioned slot. engaging the tongue, loops engaging the 10 3. In an article of the character described, pintle, and arms disposed at anangle to the a front plate, a beak upon one end of the yoke engaging the front plate.
plate, a flange on the other end of the plate, In testimony whereof I have aifixed my side Walls upon the plate, a pintle in the signature.
Walls adjacent the flange, a tongue engaging the beak, lateral ears on the tongue engaging LOUIS J. ANSHEN.
