[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 21, 1936.] [Class 140] [Also in Group XV] A strip 1 of metal foil or cellulose derivative is drawn from a reel 6 over a wheel 7 situated at the outlet of the nozzle 9 of a container 8 for glue such as a rubber solution whereby glue is applied to one side only. To prevent the glue contacting the outside edges of the strip 1 thin side members 10 arranged in the nozzle bear on the margins of the strip whereby a very narrow glue-free space is left at both side edges of the strip. A ratchet-operated roller 11 arranged in the nozzle 9 is adapted to co-operate with the wheel 7, and is mounted in adjustable eccentric bearings whereby the thickness of the layer of glue deposited on the strip may be varied. The container 8 can be swung about the shaft 18 of the wheel 7 to permit cleaning of the apparatus. The wheel 7 is rotated by the strip 1.
