Abstract

599,119. Cigarette papers. BOOTH, R. N. Sept. 21, 1945, No. 24506. [Class 96] [Also in Group VI] Ungummed cigarette papers having fibrous side edges, which make a secure seam when moistened, are formed by tearing a paper strip along moistened transverse lines. The strip a having a width corresponding to the length of the cigarettes, is fed by rollers d, e on to a wetting device comprising a roller f having ribs f<1>, f<2>, preferably of rubber, wetted by a roller g from a roller h dipping into a counterweighted tank i containing water to which starch has been added. The ribs f<1>, f<2> when wetting the paper press it against a backing roller and rollers k, k<1> pass the paper to a tearing device comprising rollers l, l<1> rotating at a higher speed. The rollers are arranged to give a snatch action before the following paper is moistened. A belt m conveys the cigarette paper to a point where a blade q falls and pushes it between a vertical part of the belt m and a further belt o which deposit the folded paper on a notch r<1> of an interleaving drum r. Alternatively, the belt m may deposit the paper in a collecting tray.
