[Class 130] An appliance for making cigarettes by hand consists of a flat plate 1 having attached at one end 4 a strip of flexible material 3 adapted to be laid down on the plate and its free end doubled back over the materials of of which the cigarette is to be made. As shown, the tobacco 5, a filter tip 6, and a cigarette paper moistened at the gummed edge 7 are laid on the plate, which has side flanges 2. The flexible strip 3 is doubled back over the tobacco &c. and pressure is applied in front of the tobacco, e.g., by means of a packet of cigarette papers, while the flexible strip 3 is drawn along by hand towards the end 4. In a modification, the pressure is applied by a roller running in slots in the side flanges 2, and the plate 1 may be provided near the end 4 with a slot through which the part of the flexible strip containing the finished cigarette can drop to facilitate the removal of the cigarette.
