Abstract

468,718. Rotary pumps. SAVAGE, L. G. Feb. 27, 1936, Nos. 5826 and 12972. [Class 110 (ii)] The pump comprises a series of vanes hinged equidistantly at their outer ends to a casing or liner, their inner ends being mounted on, or controlled by a crank. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the vanes 2 are hinged by pins 3 to a fixed casing 1, and at their inner ends pivoted to vanes 4 by pins 5. The vanes 4 have bearings 6 on a crank-pin 8. Inlet ports 11 are provided in the end covers and are periodically covered by the ends of the vanes. Delivery ports have non-return valves 10 leading to a common chamber 14. The crank C may be rotated in an anti-clockwise direction and the casing ports 10 suitably modified become the inlet ports. The casing may be subdivided axially and in the two units the cranks arranged 180‹ out of phase for balancing purposes. The crank may be fixed and the casing revolve within an outer casing. A sleeve fixed to the crank or geared thereto may be provided for controlling inlet and outlet ports in the peripheral wall of the casing. A sleeve may be placed around the casing having a port to co-operate with the delivery port. By rotating the sleeve, the delivery may be delayed until. higher compression has been reached. Figs. 3 and 4 show another arrangement in which vanes 32 are mounted on spindles 33 having bosses 34 mounted in pockets in the casing. The spindles 33 project through a wall 36 and are coupled to arms 37. These arms carry pins 39 and rollers 43 which engage in an eccentric groove 40 in a disc 41 formed on the drive shaft 42. A crank-pin may replace the eccentric groove mechanism. An inlet port 44 and outlets 45 are provided. The vanes co-operate with one another to close spaces S and force the fluid being pumped through the adjacent outlet port. The disc may be placed inside the pump chamber. In this case the pins 39 will be placed on the end faces of the vanes.
