Abstract

The catalytic production of sulphur trioxide from sulphur dioxide and oxygen with yields of more than 98 per cent is effected under a pressure of at least 5 atmospheres and at a rate of gas passage materially in excess of that possible for like yields at pressures below 5 atmospheres. The absorption of the product by means of strong sulphuric acid may also be effected under pressure.
