Abstract

467,153. Cockpit covers. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., LOBELLE, M. J. O., and VOSS, E. Dec. 7, 1935, No. 34442/36. Divided application. [Class 4] Relates to a cockpit cover 34 for use on aircraft and motor boats which in closed position constitutes a continuation of the surrounding part of the craft and in open position forms a wind shield. According to the invention, the cover is supported and moved on two pairs of links 35, 36 of unequal lengths mounted on fixed pivots 37, 38, and the cover is loaded by a spring 39 engaging an arcuate fitting 41 on the links 35 to assist in raising it against the wind pressure. A double-acting dash-pot 43 is mounted between a fixed pivot 44 and the links 36 to prevent shock when closing the cover during flight or on opening it when the craft is at rest. For locking the cover in the open and closed positions, a double hook 46 engages respectively with pins 53, 52 when moved by a handle 48 and link 50.
