Abstract

A porous composition, which may be used for heat or sound insulating purposes, comprises about 94 per cent exfoliated vermiculite and about 6 per cent gelatinized cellulose. The composition may be made by mixing exfoliated vermiculite with a viscose solution and drying. Prior to the mixing the viscose solution may be purified by treating with a weak acidic substance, e.g. alum or an organic monocarboxylic acid.ALSO:A porous composition, which may be used for heat or sound insulating purposes, comprises about 94 per cent exfoliated vermiculite and about 6 per cent gelatinized cellulose. The composition may be made by mixing exfoliated vermiculite with a viscose solution and drying.
