Abstract
464,317. Utilizing tidal energy; raising water. PROCTOR, C. F. Aug. 13, 1936, No. 22313. [Class 69 (i)] [Also in Group XXVIII] Air, alternately compressed and rarefied in a tidal chamber by the rising and falling tides, is caused to force water upwardly through a series of superposed tanks by simultaneous or alternate exertion of pressure and suction upon it. In the apparatus shown, tanks c ... c<3> are connected to one another through concentric pipes f, f<1>, f<2> forming water-seals, and by pipes e ... e3 to headers d, d<1> which can be connected by a change-over valve respectively to storage reservoirs of compressed and rarefied air, or vice versa. Water is thus alternately passed from the tanks c and c<2> to the tanks c<1> and c<3> respectively, and, on operation of the change-over valve, from a reservoir a and tanks c<1> and c<3> to tanks c and c<2> and an upper reservoir c<4> respectively. The water from the reservoir c<4> may be used to operate a prime mover and be returned to the reservoir a.
