Abstract

464,229. Refrigerating. STEENSEN, S. J. March 16, 1936, No. 7865. Convention date, April 1, 1935. [Class 29] Absorption machines. -In a refrigerating- apparatus having two or more generatorabsorbers 40 connected to a common condenser and evaporator and with non-return valves 12 and 13 in the inlet and outlet of each generator-absorber, the valve body 29 and seal 30 of each non-return valve are immersed in a liquid 36 through which the vapours of the cooling agent must pass. Owing to the non-return valves, whenever the pressure in a generator absorber rises due to heating, vapour is dis charged to the condenser through valve 12 and when the pressure falls due to cooling vapour is withdrawn from the evaporator to the absorber through valve 13. Refrigerant is admitted to the evaporator through a float valve and leaves through a thermally regulated valve which maintains the temperature of the evaporator constant. Each generatorabsorber contains a heating element 16 connected to a flexible bellows 19 containing a volatile liquid, and is normally cooled by an air current passing up through a sleeve 25 around the apparatus. Whenever the element 16 is switched on, however, the diaphragm 19 expands and, through a lever system 22 closes the top end of the sleeve 25 with a cover 41. A still air heat-insulating jacket is thus formed around the generator.
