Thermally-actuated valves. - An expansion valve for a refrigerating evaporator comprises an adjustable needle 282, Fig. 3, carried by a bridge member 274 secured to a diaphragm 267 subject to the evaporator pressure in the chamber 261 and on the other side to the pressure of an adjustable spring 278 and that due to the temperature of air or volatile liquid confined in a tube 286 connected to a bulb placed preferably in the relatively warm machine compartment of the apparatus.
