Abstract
328,301. Haslam, G. H. Jan. 25, 1929. Refrigerating, absorption and vacuum machines and systems for.- The adsorber-generator of a reversing adsorption refrigerating apparatus is provided with separate heating and cooling surfaces. The adsorbergenerator consists of gilled chambers 7 packed with activated charcoal or silica gel and having closed ended heating tubes 9 communicating with a liquid boiler 10 heated by an electrical resistance in a central tube 11. The adsorber-generator is arranged in an air flue 14 having dampers 15 and communicates through a pipe 6 with an air-cooled condenser 5, from which the liquefied refrigerant collects in a reservoir 4 communicating with an evaporator arranged in a brine tank 2 in the refrigerator. The flue dampers are normally held closed by a spring 20, Fig. 3, through links 18, 19, but are opened periodically by a cam 22 on the shaft of a constant speed motor to permit cooling air to flow through the flue,. The lower link 18 also controls, through an extension 27, a mercury switch 25 which regulates the supply of current to the electrical resistance for heating the boiler. The circuit to the resistance may be interrupted through a bellows 28 communicating with the boiler and controlled by the pressure therein. Specification 322,226 is referred to.
