Abstract

A reducible compound of a platinum group metal is applied to a carrier, e.g. vitreous silica, and is heated to effect decomposition of the compound in the presence of a moving stream of a non-reducing gas which does not react with the metal to form a volatile compound. Suitable gases are nitrogen and argon; air or oxygen may be used in the case of platinum, palladium, and rhodium. Specification 446,277 is referred to.
