Abstract

462,851. Hinges. BEATON & SON, Ltd., G., and YOUNG, F. C. Nov. 28, 1935, No. 33048. [Class 65 (ii)] In a self-aligning hinge, particularly for doors, of the type in which one wing has a part 7 with opposed spherical surfaces to be received in corresponding recesses associated with the other (forked) wing 13, 14, assembly of the members is facilitated by forming one of the recesses in a floating member 18 carried by one limb 13 of the forked hinge wing and held spaced from that limb and in operative engagement with the member 7. In the form shown, the hinge parts are held together by a pin 9 which passes with clearance through the member 7, has a head engaging the member 18, and is pressed downwards by a spring 17 to hold the members 18, 7 in contact, the pin being secured by a nut 12. The hinge pin may fit closely in the part 7 and have clearance in the limbs 13, 14. In a modification, the hinge pin is not used, the member 18 being formed with a stud which screws into a hole in the limb 13 for adjustment towards and away from the member 7 ; alternatively, the member 18 may be tapped and threaded on a stud projecting from the part 13.
