Abstract

462,578. Regulating switches ; transformers. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. April 29, 1936, No. 12183. Convention date, May 14, 1935. [Class 38 (v), [Also in Group XXXV] In a regulating switch having a contact - making device engaging a laminated contact path, the contact lamellae of which are mutually insulated, the path is subdivided into two adjacently located longitudinal strips, along which the lamellµ extend up to the contact surface alternately only, first on the one and then on the other strip, and a separate contact maker is arranged to be traversed over each strip, the two contact makers being rigidly connected together and electrically connected in parallel to one another. In the case of a stage lighting transformer, having a winding of thin copper plates 11, 12 separated by insulating layers 13, contact makers adapted to tap off current from consecutive points along the winding engage a contact path 28. The plates 11, 12 have indentations formed therein which extend over slightly more than half the width of the path 28 and the plates are so assembled that the indentations in successive plates are located first on one side of the contact path and then on the other. The spaces formed by the indentations are then filled with an insulating mass 25, thus forming two contact strips I and II. The contact making device 20 consists of two laminated metal members 18, 19 mounted in a frame 22, the thickness of the laminae being less than that of the insulating layers 13. The members 18, 19 are spring-pressed into contact with the lamellµ and are insulated from one another in the frame 22, but each is connected through a resistance with the tapping line. Each contact member may be in the form of a pair of rollers 16, 17, carried by an arm, the two arms being rigidly connected together. The rollers 16, 17 of each member are slightly displaced relatively to one another and are directly connected together, while the two members are connected in parallel through a resistance. Only one roller need be employed, in which case the parts of the sheets 11, 12 forming the contact path are widened by bending over the edges. The plates 11, 12 forming the winding are formed of the same shape, alternate plates being turned over in order to form the displaced arrangement of the indentations, and the contact path may be formed of a number of pairs of longitudinal strips.
