Abstract
425,043. Expanded metal work. EXPANDED METAL CO., Ltd., BOOTON, H., and CLAY, R. A., Burwood House, Caxton Street, London. Sept. 4, 1933, No. 24488. [Class 45] [See also Group XXXVI] Electric resistance elements are made by slitting sheet metal with a plurality of slits arranged end to end in parallel straight lines, and bending the solid material between adjacent lines of slits upwards and downwards well out of the general plane of the sheet, so as to produce, in effect, a series of open meshwork tubes extending across the sheet. The slitted material may be in the form of intermediate expanded metal, with the slits on any line staggered in relation to the slits in adjacent lines, or, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the slits may be arranged to leave solid transverse bars B of metal between adjacent tubes. Portions of the sheet may be left blank, as shown at K, Fig. 3, to facilitate mounting the sheet or the provision of tapping terminals.
