[Class 80 (ii)] In a free-wheel clutch for cycles, pawls 28 are housed in slots 22 which are formed in the outer side face of the sprocket hub 16 and which have rounded parts 20 to receive the pivotal ends of the pawls, the pawls are urged into engagement with ratchet teeth 14 on a sleeve 10 secured to the wheel hub by wire springs 32 disposed in a peripheral groove 30 on the exterior of the hub 16, and the pawls and springs are retained in position by a flanged cover plate 40 secured to the hub 16. Each spring has a central loop 34 located in a slot 36 in the outer side face of the hub 16, and the end which engages the pawl is also looped. The cover 40 may be secured by screws or its flange may have spring tongues engaging a groove 46, Fig. 6, on the hub 16. Bearing rollers 52, Fig. 5, or balls 62, Fig. 6, are arranged between the hub 16 and the sleeve 10. Where balls are employed, these are inserted through co-operating filling grooves 64, one of which is subsequently blocked by means of a peg 66 inserted radially in the hub 16. This peg may be a force fit in its hole or may be held in position by a flanged cover 65. When a lock nut 68, Fig. 7, is disposed between the frame member 72 and the bearing cone 70, there is sufficient room for the cover 40 to be moved into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 7, thus affording access to the pawls, and springs. In the absence of such lock nut, there is still sufficient room for the cover 40 to be tilted so as to afford access to the pawls and springs.
