Abstract
462,154. Printing - surfaces. PELLETIER, H. Aug. 13, 1936, No. 22303. Convention date, Aug. 13, 1935. [Class 100 (ii)] In the preparation of thin metal printing-plates having stamped up printing characters or design parts 2, the stamped plate is subjected to the pressure of a hard surface to level the surface of the characters 2 and then to the pressure of a relatively soft surface which will press down out of the printing plate the raised parts 3 which are formed as a result of the stamping operation. The parts 2 are slightly hardened by the stamping pressure and can thus penetrate the soft surface without deformation. The pressing operations may be carried out by fixing the stamped up plate to the printing cylinder and then passing in succession a metal plate and a rubber plate between the printing and impression cylinders. Alternatively the printing plate, fixed to the cylinder, may be rotated past a metal roller and then past a rubber faced roller, these rollers being mounted on eccentric bearings for adjustment of their pressure upon the plate.
