Abstract

461,807. Valves and valve circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Oct. 25, 1935, No. 29552/36. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1934. Divided out of 461,763. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] A short-wave valve comprises an axial cathode 1, surrounded by a continuous " oscillating electrode " or grid connected at each end to a high-frequency circuit, and a reflecting electrode in the form of two cylinders 4, 4<1>. The latter are connected to an oscillatory lecher-wire circuit (11) which is coupled through condensers 23, 24 to a concentric transmission line 20, 21 feeding a dipole aerial 18, 19. A coupling member 22 may also serve as a screen or reflector for the aerial. The electrode 3 is coupled to the high-frequency circuit (1) which oscillates at a frequency different from the circuit (11). For supersonic reception, the resulting beat frequency is collected in a circuit 25 and fed forward for further amplification. The arrangement may also be used as a modulator as described in Specification 461,763. Specification 344,448 also is referred to.
