Abstract

461,399. Vices. EVANS, W. J. April 14, 1936, No. 10686. [Class 61 (ii)] A vice mounted for angular adjustment about a vertical axis, and which may be constructed as described in Specification 443,381 with jaws 10a, 10b movable together or apart by a screw 11 and mounted for adjustment about a horizontal shaft 12 carried by lugs 13 on a base plate 14, comprises a rotatable ring 16 secured by screws 15 to the base plate 14 and having a circular opening with chamfered edge in which engages a disc 17 fitted with screw stud 18 passing through a hole in the bench 20 and clamp nut 21 enabling the vice and attached ring 16 to be secured in any position of angular adjustment. A spring 23 may be provided under a boss 19 on the disc 17 to facilitate release of the vice for rotation. The base plate 14 and ring 16 are of rounded shape and provided with a hollow edge 25 to be used for bending a pipe the end of which may be held in a clamp 24. A pair of subsidiary jaws 30a, 30b are removably received in dovetail slots in the main jaws. The latch 32 for holding the jaws in pivotally adjusted position about the shaft 12 is provided with a locking plunger 34.
