Abstract

460,493. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 23, 1936, No. 17449. Convention date, June 24, 1935. [Class 38 (ii)] Transformer coils are produced by winding wire whilst surrounded by a liquid insulating material such as an artificial resin varnish which may be hardened by heating, and subjecting the wound coil to the necessary heating process in a material which becomes liquid on heating, e.g. paraffin wax. The liquid insulating material may be applied by drawing the wire (either bare or insulated) through artificial resin varnish or by winding it on layers of paper coated with varnish. Pressure bands may be applied to the wound coil before its immersion in the heating bath, or the liquified heat-transferring material may be subjected to hydraulic pressure when the coil is immersed therein.
