[Class 44] A device for holding or securing a sliding window comprises an open-sided casing 3 with an inclined surface 4 co-operating with a corresponding inclined surface on a member 2 slidable in the casing so that when the member 2 moves upwards under action of a spring 6, a rubber or other friction - block 1, carried by member 2, is moved into engagement with the window frame 5. Release is effected by depressing a fingerpiece 8 on a tongue 7 depending from member 2. The attachment plate 9 by which the casing 3 is secured to the sliding window may have a finger-piece 10 for manipulating the window.
