Abstract

460,221. Wireless receiving systems. MERDLER, L. R., and BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd. July 23, 1935, No. 20930. [Class 40 (v)] A superheterodyne receiver has permanently connected circuits at the intermediate frequency stage operating at widely different intermediate frequencies, the circuits being brought selectively into effective operation. Such a receiver is applicable for the alternative reception of sound and television. In one arrangement, Fig. 1, two separate frequency changing and intermediate frequency channels 1, 2 are provided, the channel being selected by switching the high and low tension supplies to the oscillators (not shown). The outputs of the intermediate frequency amplifiers 1, 2 are led to two diode detectors 3, 4 which, as shown, have a common cathode and common load impedance 6, 7. In another arrangement, Fig. 2, a single intermediate frequency amplifier 8 is used for both wave bands, the intervalve coupling comprising two band filters 10, 12 in series, 10 being operative at the higher frequency (e.g. 19 megacycles) and 12 at the lower frequency (e.g. 110 kilocycles). Selection may be effected by using two oscillators with switching arrangements as before, or by using a single oscillator and changing its frequency.
