Abstract
532,316. Superheterodyne circuits. THORNTON, A. A. (Philco Radio & Television Corporation). July 17, 1939, No. 20743. [Class 40 (v)] A superheterodyne receiver using a small loop aerial 1 or 2, e.g. in a car radio, has a radio frequency amplifier V1 with an input tunable over at least two wave ranges, and a broad-band untuned coupling 14 ... 18 connecting it to the frequency converter V2. Thereafter the intermediate frequency is amplified in valve V3 and detected in diode V4. Ganged switches S, push buttons P and condensers C adapt the set for push-button or condenser tuning on normal broadcast waves with aerial 1 and for condenser tuning on short waves with aerial 2. The inductance 14, by resonating with the interelectrode capacity of the valve V1 tends to enhance the coupling effect on the short waves.
