Abstract

459,888. Walls. HONIGMANN, E. J. M., and BRUCKMAYER, F., 3, Stoss im Himmel, Vienna. July 18, 1935, No. 20461. [Class 20 (iv)] A masonry wall is made of courses of natural or artificial stone blocks a and joint slabs b of dry material, such slabs b consisting of a roughsurfaced material capable of yielding slightly in the direction in which the pressure is applied and having such an inherent tensile strength that, together with the friction between the blocks and the rough-surfaced slabs, will ensure that the compression strength of the wall is at least equal to that of a masonry wall having mortar joints. The material may consist of mineralized fibres, such as wood wool treated with magnesia-cement, Portland cement, water glass or like binder, and may be provided with wire reinforcement. The material may also consist of woven material, such as jute, or fibrous material, such as paper, wool, or the like reinforced with wire. The edges of the slabs may project slightly beyond one face of the wall blocks a, as shown in Fig. 2, to provide a key for plaster d, and the opposite face of the wall may be covered with asbestos-cement plates e forming a support for plaster d. The slabs may also be provided with thickened edges f, Fig. 3, so as to provide on one side of the wall a key for plaster d, and on the other side of the wall a support for covering plates g which are spaced from this surface of the wall and support plaster d. The edges of the slabs shown in Fig. 4 are provided with bindings of metal foil i, decorative cement k or woven material. Vertical rods l are provided in the wall, as shown in Fig. 5, for connecting together several courses of blocks, the ends of such rods being anchored in horizontal concrete grids m provided with iron girders n. Iron rods o and asbestos-cement plates p may be provided on one or both faces of a wall, as shown in Fig. 7, being secured in position by nails or screws q. The vertical joints of the wall may also be provided with slabs of the various materials set forth above or of wood wool employed without a binder.
