Abstract

459,295. Magnetos. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and ALLEN, A. MASSEY-, Great King Street, Birmingham. July 5, 1935, No. 19217. [Class 35] The rotary magnet b of an ignition magneto is cylindrical and is mounted on a coaxial spindle a, the polepieces c being carried by rings d mounted on the magnet. The magnet is cast on the spindle which is grooved or otherwise shaped to form a keying surface, and the cylindrical surface and ends of the magnet are ground. The polepieces consist of segmental laminµ and are held between and riveted to non-magnetic rings d which are slipped over the outer surface of the magnet. The outer surface is preferably slightly tapered and the rings d may be heated and subsequently shrunk on. To minimize risk of axial and angular displacement of the polepieces, one end of the magnet is formed with a pair of diametrically opposite notches f, each notch being engaged by a key piece g secured to the adjacent end ring d, and at the other end a plate h is riveted to the end ring.
