[Classes 122 (ii) and 122 (iii)] [See also Groups XXVII and XXVIII] In a revolving-cylinder engine, two rotors g, h have piston rods m<1>, n<1> attached which carry pistons m<2>, n<2>. Cylinders k comprising a tube having two limbs at right-angles to each other fit over the pistons and within chambers e, f. As the rotors g, h revolve, the cylinders reciprocate over the pistons. The pistons m<1> are hollow and communicate with ports g2. A valve plate v having ports v', v<2> engages the rotor g and is pressed against it by fluid pressure acting on a ported member u. Working fluid is admitted through inlet wand exhausted through outlet x. For reversing the engine, a spindle y has projections engaging a recess b<4> in the valve v and during the rotation the working fluid is first shut off by the rotation of the port z<1>. A shoe s<2> in the valve slides along the groove v<1> to vary the cut-off upon reversal. The construction may be modified and employed as an internal-combustion engine, pump or air compressor.
