Abstract
458,960. Steering ships. SORENSEN, A. M., 2, Welbeok Street, Worksop, Notting- hamshire. Jan. 10, 1936, No. 851. [Class 114] In arrangements for steering by jets a pair of propellers located in a thwartship tunnel 11 preferably located in the bows are driven by spiral bevel gear 20, 21 from a shaft 22 driven from any suitable power source. The bevelgear is enclosed in the water-tight casing 25 with glands 27 for the shaft 17 and the shaft 22 works in the casing 28. The tunnel is protected at the sides of the ship by the grid 32 the bars 31 of which may be outlined and of stream-line contour. Specification 5625/97, [Class 113], is referred to.
