Abstract
458,563. Stanchions for barriers &c. GLEAVES, S. T., 10, Valet Street, Heavily, and WATTS, G., 48, Worsley Crescent, Dialstone Lane, both in Stockport. May 25, 1936, No. 14673. [Class 45] Metal standards for temporary barriers to exclude the public during road making &c. operations comprise a base portion 1 having a hardened steel point 3 for driving into the ground, and a socket 5 to receive the lower end of an upper part 2. The part 2 may be provided with an open eye end 8 into which a guard rope may be slipped and supported without being tied to the standard, and the end 8 may have an extension 9 on which to hang a signal lamp &c. A pin 6 passed through the socket 5 may engage an annular groove 7 in the part 2, tc secure the parts of the standard together but tc permit free angular move. ment of the upper part According to a modification the upper end of the part 2 may be provided with a cross-piece 10, Fig. 4, having double hooks 11, 12 to support a rope &c., and a slot 13 to receive the hook of a signal lamp. The spiked end 3 is preferably driven into the ground by a drift 15, Fig. 6, which engages with the base of the socket, thus preventing damage to the top.
