(01. era-s57) This invention relates to steel supporting elements of concrete form work, and in particular an adjustable base for angle iron postswherein' a post positioned on the base is elevated to adjusted positions by a filler block and wedge in combination with a guide with the elements positioned in slots in flanges of the base element.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a supporting base for angle iron posts in which posts may be elevated to maintain form work in desired positions and in which the posts are positively locked in the elevated position.
In the usual type of form supporting structure posts or columns are forced upwardly to level floors, beams, andthe like by driving wedges under the posts and by this means it is very difficult to hold the posts plumb or in vertical positions. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a separate foot or base in which the lower end of a post is slidably mounted and in which wedge like keys are extended through slots in the base to force the posts upwardly.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide positive means for forcing supporting posts of concrete form work upwardly to desired positions without working the posts out of plumb.
Another object of the invention is to provide an anchoring base for supporting posts of concrete form work in which wedges may be driven between the base and lower end of a post supported thereby whereby the post is held in position.v
Another object of the invention is to provide an anchoring foot or base for supporting posts of concrete form work which anchors the lower end of the'post in position as the post is forced upwardly and in which the post is positively locked in the elevated position until concrete is poured and sets in forms supported thereby.
Another object of the invention is to provide an anchoring foot or base for posts of concrete form work in which the post may be forced up wardly without changing the position of the lower end thereof, wherein the forcing elements may readily be removed after the concrete in forms supported by the post sets.
A further object of the invention is to provide an anchor base for supporting posts of concrete form work in which the posts may readily be forced upwardly which is of a comparatively simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies an anchoring base including a base plate with upwardly extended angles positioned thereon, and a suitable filler 2 block, wedge, and guide for forcing the post upwardly in the base and for maintaining the post in an adjusted position.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view showing the lower end of a post supported in an elevated position in the base by a guide, wedge, and filler block.
Figure 2 is a sectional plan through the post looking toward the base taken on line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the base with the post and other elements omitted.
Figure 4 is a side elevational view of the base as shown in Figure 3 with the post and holding elements omitted.
Figure 5 is a view illustrating a, wedge adapted to coact with a guide and filler block for elevating a post in the base and. for maintaining the post in adjusted positions.
Figure 6 is a detail showing a plan view of the guide used in the lower end of the base.
Figure 7 is a detail showing a side elevation of the guide shown in Figure 6.
Figure 8 is a detail showing an end elevation of the guide shown in Figure 6.
Figure 9 is a detail showing an end elevation of a filler block illustrated below the wedge in the base shown in Figure 1.

Figure 12 is a typical vertical section through the base showing a post resting upon a guide therein and illustrating a lever for elevating a post at one side with the filler block in. a position of forcing the guide and post upwardly from the opposite side.
Figure 13 is a view similar to that shown in Figure 12 showing the post and guide elevated with the filler block in position under the guide and illustrating the position of the parts as the wedge shown in Figure 5 is started therein.
Figure 14 is a detail showing a section through a holding stud for securing the lower end of the post to the base, being taken on line I l-l4 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved adjustable angle iron post base of this invention includes a base plate I0 having upwardly extended angle members II and I2 positioned thereon, a guide l3, a filler block l4 and a wedge l5.
The angles II and I2 are integral with the base plate being secured thereto by welding or the like, and the angles are positioned as illustrated in Figure 3 with the corners back to back and with the corners formed with flat surfaces I6 and I1, respectively. One leg of the angle II is provided with an elongated slot I8 and the opposite leg of the angle I2 is provided with a similar slot IS. A stud 20 with an opening 2I therein is also positioned on a leg of one of the angles to facilitate retaining the wedge I in position.
The guide I3, as illustrated in Figures 6, 7 and 8, is formed with two triangular shaped sections 22 and 23 connected by a vertically disposed web 24 which is formed with a beveled under surface 25 to correspond with the beveled surface of the wedge I5, and the section 22 is provided with an extended lug 26 that is positioned to receive a lever or bar 21, as shown in Figures 12 and 13. The ends of the sections 22 and 23 are provided with downwardly extended flanges 28 and 29, respectively, and the flange 29 is provided with a notch 30 that is positioned to receive the wedge I5.
The filler block I4 is formed of a rectangularshaped bar having a point 3| with an arcuate under surface 32 and spaced from the opposite end an enlarged section 33 is provided with upwardly extended lugs 34 and 35 at the sides thereof and'between which the wedge I5 is positioned with the wedge on the filler block as illustrated in Figure 1. The block may also be provided with an opening 36 through which a wire or cord may be attached to the block.
The wedge I5 is formed as illustrated in Figure 5 with a small end 31 and a large end 38 and an opening 39 is provided through the large end. The wedge may be formed with a fiat side 40 and a sloping or inclined edge 4| which coacts with the surface 25 of the guide with the flat side on the filler block or on the adjustable angle iron post base. With the elements formed in this manner a post formed with angle irons 42 and 43, positioned with the corners of the angles back to back as shown in Figure 2, is positioned on the base as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, and studs 44 with keys 45 positioned in slots 45 therethrough are positioned in the angles of the base and posts with the studs extended through the slots I8 and t9 of the angles of the base, whereby the studs slide upwardly in the slots as the lower end of the post is forced upwardly by the wedge element. The guide I3 is positioned on the base'plate In of the base with the web .24 thereof between the flat surfaces I6 and I! with the sections 22 and 23 filling the triangularshaped areas between the flanges of the angles II and I2 and with the angles of the post positioned in these areas the lower ends of the angles of the post will rest upon the sections 22 and 23 of the guide.
The guide I3, is therefore, positioned below the lower ends of the angles of the post as illustrated in Figure 12 and with a lever or bar 21 positioned on a fulcrum element or block 41 the post and guide may be forced upwardly with this action aided by the filler block I4. As the post is elevated the filler block [-4 is slipped under the guide I3 as shown in Figure 13, and then the small end 31 of the wedge I5 is inserted between the lugs 34 and 35 of the filler block with the sloping surface 4| against the corresponding surface 25 of the guide and as the wedge is driven in, the post will be elevated to the desired position. The wedge, filler block, and guide may then remain in position, and the parts remain in this position, as illustrated in Figure 1, as the concrete is poured in forms supported by the postand until the concrete has set. The parts may readily be removed after the concrete is set by knocking out the wedge I5.
It will be understood that modifications may be made in the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
1. In combination, a horizontally disposed base plate provided with opposed V-shaped angle members, said angle members being provided with corners, said corners being arranged in back to back relationship with respect to each other and each having a flat surface said angle members including legs extending upwardly from said base plate and said legs being provided with slots, a post arranged between the angle members, a guide arranged between said angle members and adapted to engage the lower ends of the post, said guide being provided with a sloping lower surface, a filler block provided with a pointed end and having upwardly extending spaced lugs for supporting the guide, and a wedge positioned between said guide and filler block.
2. In combination, a horizontally disposed base plate provided with opposed V-shaped angle members, said angle members having corners in back to back relationship and said corners being formed with flat surfaces said angle members including legs extending upwardly from said base plate and said legs being provided with slots, a post arranged between the angle members, a guide arranged between said angle members and adapted to engage the lower ends of the post, said guide being provided with a sloping lower surface, a filler block provided with a pointed end and having upwardly extending spaced lugs for supporting the guide, a wedge positioned between said guide and filler block, said wedge being provided with a straight lower edge and an inclined upper edge.
