[Class 40 (iii)] " Blacker than black" synchronizing signals isolated by an amplitude filter valve R2 are reversed in phase by a valve R3 to render them to the right sign necessary to control the relaxation oscillators. The valve R2 is biassed to pass only the synchronizing impulses and its cut-off level is preferably varied by varying its anode potential. If the signal applied to valve R2 has been applied to the cathode - ray tube at some previous stage, the anode voltage of the valve R2 can be adjusted for conditions corresponding to complete modulation of the cathode-ray tube and will not require further adjustment unless the proportion of the carrier reserved for the synchronozing signal is varied or a new cathoderay tube inserted.
