Abstract

402,629. Television. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London.-(Assignees of Tolson, W. A. ; 631, Jefferson Avenue, Erlton, and Duncan, J. R.; 341, N. 41st Street, Camden, both in New Jersey, U.S.A.) Feb. 27, 1933, No. 5967. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1932. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v).] A saw-tooth or other special wave form 40 for controlling a cathode ray 15 is generated by means of a back-coupled thermionic valve 20, 20a. When current begins to flow through the valve, the positive coupling between the anode coil 21<1> and the grid coil 23 causes the current to increase to saturation and then to decrease to zero. Grid current, flowing while the grid is positive 29, accumulates on a condenser 22 and prevents another current impulse until the charge has sufficiently leaked away through a resistance 24. This period is slightly longer than the period between synchronising signals, which make the grid potential sufficient to start the next current impulse. The current impulses 30, 31 are passed by a transformer 21 to a rectifying-valve 32, which produces negative peaks 34 in its anode circuit. A condenser 35 and resistances 36, 37 alter these peaks to the form 39, which is amplified by a valve 38 to develop a saw-tooth current 40, which is passed through coils 17 to deflect the ray 15 horizontally. The current for vertical deflection is derived from a similar valve circuit 19a with an appropriate time constant for the circuit 22a, 24a. The synchronising signals 28, 48, controlling the horizontal and vertical movement respectively, differ in the steepness of their wave front, as described in Specification 395,499, and are separated by a filter 47. Specification 394,597 also is referred to.
