Abstract

401,990. Television. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London.-(Assignees of Bedford, A. V.; 118, East Palmer Avenue, Collingswood, New Jersey, U.S.A.) May 29, 1933, No. 15496. Convention date, May 28, 1932. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v).] In the production of a saw-tooth current 33 for deflecting the ray 16.in a cathode-ray tube 10, a feed-back circuit 36, associated with a valve 32, compensates distortion of the wave form. Short impulses at the picture frequency, for example 24 cycles per second, are produced by a positively back-coupled valve 23, with a condenser 25 in its grid circuit, which is charged during each impulse to block the valve until the charge has leaked through a resistance 27. A network 30 in the output of the valve gives rise to a voltage wave 31, which would produce a saw-tooth wave in the output of the valve 32 in the absence of distortion due to the non- linear charging characteristic of the condenser 28, current passing through a resistance 34, distributed capacity in the output circuit, the inductive load, and the characteristic of the valve. The distortion is counteracted by negative reaction through an impedance network 36 in the cathode circuit of the valve. Other networks including an inductance shunt and a capacity shunt, or only an inductance shunt or a capacity shunt may be used, Fig. 4 (not shown). A second circuit 20 produces a similar current 40 at the line frequency. The oscillator may comprise a valve which periodically discharges a condenser, Fig. 5 (not shown).
