[Class 34 (i)] [See also Group IX] In unwinding natural silk from cocoons and winding it onto bobbins, the silk threads are conducted through drying conduits 13, Fig. 1, each comprising three walls 14, 15, 16, Fig. 4, rigidly connected to one another and a bottom consisting of a flap 24 hinged to the wall 16 and side portions 19provided with thread guides 23 in agate discs 22 and slots 26, 27 in the side portions and discs respectively lead to the guides 23 ; after the thread 12 has been inserted in the guides, the bottom is closed and secured by catches 28 or other means, plates 29 sunk into the ends of the walls 14, 15, 16 then covering the slots 26, 27. The conduits are supplied with hot air through pipes 18 connected to manifolds 31, 31<1> connected to pipes 38, 38<1> leading from heaters 36, 36<1> supplied with steam from pipes 9 and drawing air through inlets 37, 37<1> ; the hot air is exhausted from the conduit by fans 33, 33<1> connected to manifolds 32, 32<1> connected to the conduits by pipes 17.
