[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] In forming half bearing brasses the blank a is bent to the finished curvature and a tangential compression force then applied to the end face of the blank. A leved strip a is forced into a die 5 by a die 10 and is held by a spring plunger 6. On movement of a rod R an ironing die 14 and an end die 15 are then raised after compression of a spring 13 to apply a sudden pressure to the end face of the blank further to deform the blank.
