Abstract
596,449. Making rectifier discs. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 6, 1945, No. 8550. Convention date, May 2, 1944. [Classes 83 (iii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Groups II and XXXVI] Blank punching ; knurling.-In making a metal disc to be coated with selenium to form a rectifier element, discs 13 blanked from a strip 16, Fig. 2, by means of a punch 18 are passed beneath a knurling roll 11 and then beneath a smooth pressure roller 22 which bends over the projections produced by the roll 11 and so forms hooked keys for retaining the selenium layer. In a modification, the discs are only partially removed by the punch 18, Fig. 3, and are pressed back into the strip 16 before passing beneath the knurling and pressure rolls. The blanks are subsequently removed from the strip. In a further modification the strip is passed beneath the rollers and the discs are subsequently punched from the treated strip.
