[Class 108 (i)] [See also Group XXXIV] In stream-line vehicle bodies at openings such as windows and where disturbances in the air flow occur,' guide surfaces are provided in front of such openings to guide the air stream and prevent detachment of such stream from the boundary of the vehicle body. The guide surfaces are made adjustable and may in certain circumstances function as air brakes. Figs. 1 and 2 show a guide surface 4 carried by hinged arms 6 and adapted to be moved to, say, position 4<a> to form a slot to guide the air stream whereas if moved to position 4<b> the air stream is deflected and forms eddies to exert a braking action on the body. Adjustable flaps 14 may also be mounted on axes parallel to the window posts 10. Fig. 5 shows a flap 15 arranged at the rear to act as a brake which may be connected to the usual brake lever so that the air brakes come into action prior to the wheel brakes. The guide surfaces 4, 14, as shown, are connected to the roof opening 5, and window 7 so that the air gap is adjusted relative to the opening of the roof or window.
