Abstract

350,554. Fluid pressure brakes. SIMMONS, A. W. and WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SAXBY SIGNAL CO., Ltd., 82, York Road, King's Cross, London. March 14, 1930, No. 8281. [Class 103 (i).] In automatic vacuum brake apparatus for railway trains wherein a continuously operating exhauster or equivalent is provided on the locomotive, the exhauster 3 is connected to an intermediate point in a pipe 1 extending the length of the locomotive, this pipe being coupled up at 7 to the trainpipe 6 at the forward end and closed at the rear end as by a driving cap 8. The driver's brake valve 9 may be arranged to cut off the front end of the train-pipe from the pipe 1 in the emergency position or the operation of the valve to this position may close a valve 20 so as to render the exhauster ineffective. In the case of double-heading, the exhauster pipe 23 of the rear locomotive is closed at both ends as shown.
