Abstract
202,735. Cloud, J. W., and Westing- house Brake & Saxby Signal Co., Ltd. May 25, 1922. Fluid-pressure.-In fluid-pressure brakes for railway vehicles in which the braking force is varied for " loaded " and " empty " conditions, the end-cock for the train or brake pipe is arranged so that, in adition to opening and closing the train-pipe, it also controls communication between the train-pipe and a fluid-pressure device effecting the setting of the braking apparatus to empty or loaded conditions. The channel 5 in the cock 3 by which the train-pipe 2 is opened or closed, has a downward extension 6 connected with a lateral passage 7 which is arranged in one position of the cock, Fig. 3, to admit train-pipe air to a passage 8 which is connected with the fluidpressure device. The end-cock has three positions. In the first, the throughway 2 is open and the passages 7, 8 are connected so that the brake mechanism is set for loaded conditions. In the second, the throughway 2 is open but the passage 8 is connected by a cavity 9 with an atmospheric port 10, thus setting the mechanism for empty conditions. In the third position the throughway is closed as when a vehicle is detached. The handle 4 may be provided with usual locking mechanism. The passage 8 in the cock at one end of a vehicle may be plugged or capped.
