Abstract

219,762. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Fairburn, C. E. May 10, 1923. Fluid-pressure.-A trailer vehicle intended for assisting the braking of a train of vehicles driven by an electrically propelled vehicle or locomotive but not provided with continuous brakes has arranged thereon a fluid-pressure braking system the compressor or exhauster of which is driven by an electric motor supplied with current from an overhead conductor or from the track. As shown the vehicle is provided with an emergency straight air system such that upon opening the emergency pipe 5 to atmosphere by the valve 7, a valve 3 is moved to connect the reservoir 1 to the brake cylinder, a straight and more gradual application of the brakes being effected by connecting the two pipes 5, 6 through the valve 7. An exhaust muffler 9 is shown as associated with the valve 7. The reservoir 1 is charged by a compressor 11 driven by an electric motor 12 supplied with current through a collector 10. A vacuum system may be used instead of a pressure system.
