Abstract
471,342. Reducing resistance to motion. HUET, A. Aug. 6, 1936, No. 21716. Convention date, Aug. 10, 1935. Addition to 438,991. [Class 4] Resistance to motion of a material body through a fluid is reduced by the combination with means as described in the parent Specification of a rear apparatus which includes convex surfaces, disposed to the rear of the mass of fluid moving with the body to ensure stability of the mass. In one form, deflectors a<1>, a<2> are placed in front of a body A and co-operate with rear deflectors c<1>, c<2>. Secondary deflectors b<1>, Fig. 1, and d<1>, d<2>, e<1>, e<2>, Fig. 3, may be provided. The deflectors a<1>, a<2> may be convex towards the front, and the rear deflectors a<1>, a<2> may be combined and associated with secondary deflectors. A solid body of streamline form may be situated behind the deflectors a<1>, a<2>. Deflectors a<1>, a<2>, g and c may be disposed on a motor car as indicated in Fig. 10. The deflectors may be situated between the bonnet and the hood of a motor vehicle, on either side of a window or a hood opening, or between two adjacent railwaycarriages and may be pivoted for manual or automatic control.
