Convention date, May 7, 1937, [Class 108 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIV] In order to increase the pressure of the wheels of .a racing car on the ground, a vane 1, 2 of aerofoil section is arranged transversely of the car in such a position that while the car is in motion air pressures are produced which force the wheels of the car on the ground, the resultant downward force passing through a point in the plane enclosed between the points of wheel contact. The vane may also act as a brake. As shown, the vane comprises a fixed part 1 and a pivoted flap 2 and is mounted on streamlined vertical supports 5, 5<1> which, with the upper surface of the car body and underside of the vane, form a nozzle. The vane, which is bounded by end plates 4, 4<1> may, as a whole, be fixed or adjustable by the driver or automatically.
