Abstract

Concretes, mortars, and plaster compositions are made by mixing medium or lightly burnt dolomite with water in the presence of a small proportion of a soluble fluosilicate, e.g. magnesium fluosilicate. Rapid setting Portland cement, or aluminous cement may be added to supplement the accelerating effect of the fluosilicate. Fillers, e.g. finely divided silica slag or diatomaceous earth, colouring matter and aggregate may also be present. In an example, a concrete mixture comprising 2 parts by volume of crushed stone, 10 parts of sand, 4 parts of burnt dolomite, and 1 part of rapid hardening cement is gauged with a solution made by mixing 1 part of a 10 per cent solution of magnesium fluosilicate with 3 parts of water.
