Abstract
A cement comprises a mixture in a finely divided state of anhydrous calcium or magnesium oxide, or a mixture thereof, and an artificial puzzuolana formed by heating aluminium silicates, e.g. clay, slate, and shale, to temperatures of from 550 DEG to 800 DEG C. The oxide may constitute about 25 per cent of the mixture. An accelerator in the form of calcium sulphate in the proportion of from 5 to 15 per cent may be added. In an example, clay from the river Humber is heated to about 750 DEG C. and mixed with 25 per cent of burnt lump lime. The mixture is finely ground.
